About

For this project I drew inspiration from the concept of recycling and the inherent beauty of leather as a material. As a leather goods craftsman and designer myself My main objective was to recycle leather scraps, rather than relying solely on full hides. , I aimed to accentuate the natural grain and distinctive features of the material. Additionally, I turned to the world of leather craft and handbags for inspiration, utilizing collage techniques and free draping for the sketches using leather scraps and bags I designed myself   The coat is Crafted from an assortment of leather scraps, hides sourced from various designers, factories, and upholstery, it embodies the principles of upcycling and waste reduction. By repurposing materials that would otherwise go to waste, I have given new life to discarded leather, transforming it into a  garment. In addition To further reduce waste, no additional materials such as cotton canvas, cotton twill fabric for the lining, or hardware like zippers and buckles were purchased to create this coat. Instead, I made use of everything available at home, maximizing the resources at hand. As part of the design, canvas bags  are attached to the shoulders, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the garment. However, their versatility goes beyond the coat itself. With a simple detachment and a little bit of work, these canvas bags can be transformed  into handbags, ready to be worn separately. It was also important for me to commit to further sustainability. Even when its use as a coat reaches its end, it can continue its journey as a recycled material. The design takes into account the eventual recycling process, enabling the materials to be efficiently reclaimed and repurposed for future projects. This approach ensures that the coat's environmental footprint remains minimal throughout its lifecycle

The incorporation of various materials and the emphasis on reusability reflect a commitment to circular design principles. This upcycled  coat is  a conscious effort to reduce waste, promote resourcefulness, and inspire others to think creatively about their own consumption habits .By repurposing leather scraps, utilizing existing materials and the versatilty of the canvas bags, this coat exemplifies the potential for sustainable fashion to be both environmentally friendly and aesthetically appealing. It serves as a reminder that fashion can be an agent of positive change, fostering a mindset that values sustainability, innovation, and the preservation of our planet's resources.
